Why Flowers

I was asked recently "why flowers, Mary? What draws you to them? To grow them and to share them with others?"

My husband was actually the first one to suggest I become a flower farmer. I laughed and told him, "no it is to much work!". Keep in mind at the time I had 3 kids under the age of 4.  The idea hit a cord though and the more I thought about it the more I liked the idea. 

There were so many times in the early years of my marriage that I couldn't grow flowers because we were in apartments. I kept wishing that there was some where I could go to pick my own flowers and bring them home and design them. Yes, I know, I could go to Walmart or Albertson or some other supermarket that sold cut flowers but it's not the same. Feeling the sun on my skin while surrounded by plants and being able to smell the dirt beneath my feet, that was the experience I wanted.  When my husband brought home a bouquet those were the memories it brought to mind.  Every time I would see the bouquet on my table I would be reminded of how much my husband loves me and gets that I need flowers in my life. Then the memories of warm days growing plants would fill my mind. 

So why flowers?  What draws me to them? In short flowers make me happy, they connect me to happy memories and most importantly they fill me with hope when I'm having a hard time.
